Story Writing 07: Basic Outline March 5, 2010

This is an important step for you as the writer because this outline is how you’ll keep track of where the story’s going and where you are at. Given the convenience of computers, open up a Word document (or any text related program, really) and write a basic beginning and end. From there, you can insert important events chronologically between the top and the bottom, changing the text in a way that lets you know what you are currently writing or already finished. As long as it works for you, you can really just organize the storyline as you like.
This step is extremely important, especially since you are more than likely to rewrite parts of the story, if not the entire thing, and with an outline you can look over what you originally intended and make improvements upon it
